Group Head of Legal

Job Description

Location: Limassol or Nicosia or Romania

We are working with a leading client in the CFD space seeking an experienced Group Head of Legal to lead and shape the organisation’s legal strategy at a global level.

This is a senior leadership role, acting as a trusted advisor to the Board and executive team, ensuring strong governance, compliance, and risk management across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Advisory

• Develop and implement the company’s legal strategy aligned with business objectives
• Advise the CEO, Board, and senior leadership on legal and governance matters
• Promote strong corporate governance and ethical standards

Compliance & Risk

• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations (e.g. GDPR, MiFID, MiFIR)
• Design and implement internal control frameworks
• Monitor regulatory changes and assess business impact
• Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks

Corporate Governance

• Advise on board governance and corporate structure
• Oversee corporate filings, statutory records, and documentation
• Develop and enforce internal legal policies

Commercial & Transactions

• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements
• Support M&A, joint ventures, and strategic transactions
• Provide legal support across commercial operations

Disputes & External Counsel

• Oversee litigation, disputes, and regulatory investigations
• Manage and supervise external legal counsel
• Ensure cost-effective use of external legal resources

Leadership

• Lead and develop the legal team
• Oversee department performance and operations
• Manage legal budgets and external spend

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer with a valid practising certificate
• Minimum 10+ years’ experience, including senior leadership exposure
• Strong experience within CFD / financial services
• Proven experience managing multi-jurisdictional legal frameworks
• Expertise in corporate law, governance, compliance, and risk
• Experience handling M&A, litigation, and complex legal matters
• Ability to operate at Board and executive level
